When the gutter sits within the roof

A box gutter can be less visible from the ground than an eaves gutter. Describe where water appears, whether overflow is visible and what previous repairs have been carried out. A leak near a box gutter still needs assessment; a photograph does not establish whether replacement, clearing or another roof repair is appropriate.

Agree the drainage details before replacement

Ask for the gutter section, outlets, overflow provisions and adjoining roof junctions to be considered together by the responsible trade. An existing layout should not be copied without checking whether it suits the proposed work. Any required design or approval needs to be identified before installation.
