Describe where the water escapes
Tell Allen whether water leaks from a joint, runs down the wall, backs up near the gutter outlet or appears at ground level. Mention visible cracks, loose brackets or a disconnected section. These observations help define what needs checking without assuming every overflow is a damaged pipe.
Know where the repair starts and ends
A quote can distinguish the gutter outlet, above-ground downpipe, brackets, bends and connection at the base. Clearing a blocked gutter is a different task from replacing a cracked pipe. Investigation or alteration of underground stormwater drainage should be identified separately and assigned to the appropriate trade.

Can I ask for cleaning without painting?
Yes. You can enquire about cleaning, painting or both. Describe the current condition and the work you want so the scopes can be discussed separately.
Does storm damage mean the whole roof needs replacing?
The timing alone cannot establish that. Roof and drainage concerns need to be distinguished. Share when the issue started and what can be seen safely; do not assume either a minor repair or a full replacement before assessment.
What if I do not know the material or cause?
Start with your suburb, when the problem happens and what you can observe. Roof material and photos are optional. You do not need to climb onto the roof to enquire.
