Two defects, two repair decisions
One view shows a missing section of a terracotta tile. Other close views show cracks beside ridge caps and separation in the mortar. Surface lichen is also visible, but cleaning that surface would not replace the missing tile or secure a loose ridge cap.
What a local tile repair needs to include
The replacement tile needs a compatible shape and fit. The surrounding tiles, support and any accessible underlay should be checked so that the agreed repair addresses the affected area. Colour variation between old and replacement tiles can be discussed before work is agreed.
Pointing or bedding: establish the condition first
If ridge caps and bedding remain sound, the work may focus on failed pointing. If the support is loose or damaged, covering the surface is not the same as rebedding. The photographs show where a closer physical inspection is useful; they do not establish the stability of every ridge cap.
A quotation the homeowner can compare
A useful scope separates tile replacement, ridge preparation, pointing or bedding, access equipment and removal of loose material. Ask which items are definite and which depend on closer inspection. If the roof is also leaking indoors, include the timing and location of the leak in your enquiry.
